Prague Marathon

Prague Marathon is the biggest and most important marathon of the Czech Republic. It is always held in early May, and features the highlights of the wonderful old town. Prague Marathon offers the classic distance as well as a two Half Marathon relay race.

I ran Prague Marathon as marathon no. 6 of my 12 Marathons in 12 months project and I really loved it, except for the cobblestones and tram tracks. But that is something you probably have to accept when running in an old historic city like that.

Vienna City Marathon review

Vienna alsways had a special place in my heart. Not only did I run my second Half Marathon there, but I also studied in this beautiful city for 7 years and would call it my second home. So when I was looking for a Marathon to run in May for my 12 Marathons in 12 months project, the Vienna City Marathon was of course on the top of my list. And I can tell you, it did not disappoint.

Two Oceans Marathon Double – running the 24 km Trail and 56 km Ultra

When I ran the 56 km Two Oceans Ultra Marathon last year I promised myself to be back for what is known as the most beautiful Marathon in the world. I also promised myself to one day run the Two Oceans 24 km Trail Run that always takes place on Good Friday, the day before regular Two Oceans Marathon. So when I set my alarm clock for the day when registration started, I was hoping to get maybe one spot in one of the two races. But surprisingly I got both. And just like that I randomly signed up to run the Two Oceans Marathon Double  of 80km in just 30 hours.

At that time I had never run a distance that far. The previous Two Oceans Marathon was my longest road race so far. And the only other event, where I came close to that mileage was World’s Toughest Mudder, a 24 hour obstacle race, where I ran 50 official miles.

Two Oceans Marathon review

The Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon in Cape Town is actually one of two very famous Ultra Marathons in South Africa: the 56km Two Oceans Marathon and the 90km Comrades Ultra Marathon. It is always held on the Saturday between Good Friday and Easter Sunday. The Two Oceans Marathon is a race where you have to qualify (see below) and where the cut off time of 7 hours gross is actually enforced. The reward for it is a special medal, that changes colour for every hour that passes: sub 4, sub 5, sub 6 and sub 7 hours.

Two Oceans Marathon Medals

The Two Oceans Marathon 56km is the classical distance, but there are three other races that weekend, which are also highly popular: the Half Marathon on a less scenic route and the 12km and 24km trail run on the back of Table Mountain, which I absolutely have to try next year.

I have written another blog posts about my amazing experience at the Two Oceans Marathon, that covers much more. You can find it here.
