Vienna alsways had a special place in my heart. Not only did I run my second Half Marathon there, but I also studied in this beautiful city for 7 years and would call it my second home. So when I was looking for a Marathon to run in May for my 12 Marathons in 12 months project, the Vienna City Marathon was of course on the top of my list. And I can tell you, it did not disappoint.
The Berlin Marathon is well known as the fastest Marathon in the world. (I also ran my fastest time there in 2017). It’s little brother, the Berlin Half Marathon, is less well known. But definitely not slower at all. It is one of the fastest Half Marathons out there. The new course record of 58 minutes 42 seconds is the 4th fastest time worldwide. (as of 2018)
Are you thinking of escaping the cold and maybe running a nice, warm destination Marathon? Search no more, because there is Tel Aviv Marathon. It always takes place on a Friday end of February. Not only do they have a Marathon, but also a Half Marathon, 10km and 5km race. I ran Tel Aviv Marathon in February 2018 as my third Marathon in my 12 Marathon in 12 months project.
I am currently tapering for my 6th Marathon. Previously I always had a hard time tapering before a race. I knew that a good taper period where you scale back on volume and intensity is essential to reach peak performance level on race day. However I always struggled with normal taper plans because I felt like tapering meant doing less or even nothing and therefore not contributing towards my goal.
