In 2018 I ran 12 Marathons in 12 months to raise money for the SOS Children’s Villages.
You can find my blogpost on what I learned during this year here.
The 12 Marathons were:
- Disney World Marathon
- Dubai Marathon
- Tel Aviv Marathon
- Two Oceans Ultra Marathon
- Vienna Marathon
- Prague Marathon
- LGT Alpine Marathon Liechtenstein
- Königsschlösser Marathon Füssen
- Reykjavik Marathon
- Berlin Marathon
- Munich Marathon
- Frankfurt Marathon
Why 12 Marathons in 12 Months?
Last year my friend Karsten ran 12 Marathons in 12 months. I was immediately impressed and jealous at the same time. And I was wondering if I could do this as well?
And as I always love a good challenge, I decided to do 12 Marathons in 12 months as well.
Why do I want to run for a good cause?
In 2017 I ran the London Marathon and did some fundraising for a small local London charity. I really enjoyed the process because I met so many interesting people and was also able to give back to society. It also makes all that training so much more worth the effort, as the goal is far more meaningful than just aiming for another PB.
So when I decided to run 12 Marathons in 12 months I immediately knew that I want to do it for a good cause.
Why SOS Children’s Villages?
I have chosen the SOS Children’s Villages because it is an internationally recognized NGO network founded in Austria, where I am from.
I have chosen to not fundraise for a particular project, but for their emergency and disaster relief fund. This gives them more room to maneuver and the money arrives where it is most needed.
How much money did I raise?
You can see the outcome of my fundraising here. In total I raised more than EUR 2,000!
