With England’s Toughest Mudder just two months away it is time to revise my Toughest Mudder gear list based on my experiences from last year. I am publishing this here as a reference for newbies to the Toughest Mudder series. This list is different from my World’s Toughest Mudder gear list, which I will publish in due course.
If you have been following my blog for a while you probably know that I love Obstacle Course Racing or OCR. Some people might also call it mud runs.
I’ve started doing these runs in 2015 with a short 7km Spartan Sprint and immediately fell in love with it. I since have completed several Spartan Trifectas, Tough Mudders and other races. I love it so much, that I am now even doing Spartan Ultras or the grueling 24h World’s Toughest Mudder.
I recently ran World’s Toughest Mudder, a 24 hour obstacle race held in the desert just outside Las Vegas, Nevada. While I think I was quite prepared for this one (think training, nutrition and getting lots of information on the World’s Toughest Mudder Facebook group), there were still some valuable lessons I learned, that can be applied to any 24 hour race, not only obstacle races. And yes, there were some things I learned the hard way.
When I look at my goals journal for 2017, the first entry is World’s Toughest Mudder. And in the section of what I need to do it says:
Train like a crazy person.
Although this pretty much sums it up, I thought it might still be a good idea to get into the details of what I did this year to hit 50 miles and what lessons I learned.
